If you're in a relationship you are most likely going on dates regularly — even if it's just hanging out with your friends on the weekends.

While some opt for dinner and a movie, you can choose to make fitness a part of your time together! As the saying goes, "the couple who plays together stays together," and chances are, being fit together will make you see your partner in a whole new light!

Here are 5 easy ideas to get active on your next date:

  1. Ride your bike to your next dinner date. It'll give you more time to laugh and be together, and bike riding will help you digest your meal on the way home!

  3. Play a sport on your date. My husband and I love to go bowling, or you could try hitting the batting cages. While bowling, I always notice myself squatting and standing up the whole time, which is way more active than sitting through a movie.

  7. Walk the extra mile at the mall. Park farthest away from the first store to walk from one end of the mall to the other. At the end of your shopping spree, you will have to turn around and walk all the way back. To make things more fun, wear a step-counter or a pedometer while shopping to see just how many steps you take. Our outlet mall has over 100 shops to walk through, so we get almost 3 miles worth of steps during our shopping dates!

  11. Get active with video games. There are lots of add-ons and options when it comes to video games and getting off the couch. We love tapping into our competitive spirit, and it's a great way to spend a night in!

  13. Challenge your partner to a sprint off or see who can do more reps of your favorite exercise — you may surprise yourself to see how much harder you push when you’re competing against each other.

Another way to stay on track with your health goals is to work healthy eating into your relationship. Keep each other accountable by choosing meals that fit your lifestyle together. On our dates, my husband and I love grabbing a quick snack beforehand to help keep us full during our activities. We love Smoothie King's Greek Yogurt Pineapple Mango Smoothie — we like to make it a meal replacement Smoothie so we stay full the whole time we are bowling or battling it out in a video game. We also like to ride our bikes to our Smoothie King store and race each other on the way back. Racing is a fun way to feed our competitive natures while we keep each other on track!
